Outdoor Wild Learning Skills Alternative Provision
We at OWLS are a unique short-term intervention that supports students in continuing their education when they are unable to attend their regular school. Our purpose is to reengage students who have been excluded, refuse to attend, are too ill, or face a variety of other challenges. Through tailored programmes and personalised support, we intend to help these students achieve their potential and prepare them for future life opportunities. By fostering a learning environment that accommodates individual needs, we strive to empower students, instilling in them the confidence and skills necessary to thrive academically and personally.
We aim to use our diverse animals and tranquil setting to provide students with a calming environment that will significantly aid them in their transition back into mainstream education. It is widely proven that being around animals is more likely to reduce stress levels, anxiety, and depression, while also easing feelings of loneliness. Furthermore, interacting with animals encourages physical exercise and promotes a sense of playfulness that is beneficial for overall well-being.
Our Aims
With close connections to schools and local authorities, Owls will provide each student with a unique opportunity to develop their emotional and social skills effectively. This supportive environment will not only foster a strong sense of belonging and inclusion but also help students build resilience, preparing them for the various challenges they may encounter in their adult lives.
